This is the 1st story of what I call the Iron and Steel verse. The fan fiction alternate universe is a more serious non-kiddie take on a select few series formerly owned by DiC Animation and to some degree work from PBS. The first story focuses on the main branch of characters the series touches on, Inspector Gadget.

This story is the origin of Inspector Gadget helping to fight crime on an international level and coming to learn he can't do this alone. Also, it's when the agency which is a counter to who he works for, first takes notice of him and starts to devise plans to up their game as well.

First line:
"The dog looking at him in the face was his first memory, that and pain."
